::About Us::
The Jedi Foundation was officially created May 4th 2010. However the Jedi Foundation grew from the already established Jedi Academy Online. Which was founded on March 27th 2007. We, as an organization, have undergone many changes since then; both cosmetic and in our views and policies. The Jedi Foundation is the by-product of the most recent growth spurt of the Jedi, seeking to turn dreams into reality.
The Jedi Foundation is not a simple product of wishful thinking or spur of the moment ideas. The founder, Opie Macleod as most know him online, has been a part of the online Jedi Movement since 1998. Before that, since 1990, he took what he could from the fiction and sought to follow the Jedi Way in everyday life. As such the Jedi Foundation is born out of years of experience living as a Jedi in the real world and being a part of the greater Jedi Community. Over the years Opie Macleod was a part of many Jedi sites and organizations. He was elected and placed in many Administrator positions (often called Councils, such as the Light Aspect Council at the Force Academy), as well as instructor roles (such as Solo Instructor at the JEDI Academy).
However Opie continually fell at odds with the Community wanting and seeking more then what was being offered. Eventually Opie created the Jedi Circle in 2004 and shared it with the majority of the Jedi Community in 2005. This simple yet break-through text was looked upon favorably and was the first non-fiction writing widely accepted as core Jedi philosophy. Over the years, as Opie Macleod grew in the Jedi Path, the Jedi Circle evolved. In late 2009 Opie created a sister-piece called the Jedi Precepts to help the Force Academy more clearly define what it meant to be a (Light) Jedi.
Life has a way of challenging all dreams. In 2010 Opie Macleod faced many life-changing events which brought work on the Jedi Foundation to a crawl. This changed many of the policies which had been set into place and Opie started to look for a way to adapt the Jedi Academy Online. While looking to donate to a charity organization (which puts up a plaque for a certain level of donation) Opie thought, 'wouldn't it be great to not have my name up there but have it recognize the Jedi Path.' The Jedi, despite some claiming to be a non-profit organization have never fully gained recognition for charity work. This is because they do not have the proper focus and goals. They have made headlines for trying to sue Supermarkets and Job Centers for supposed religious discrimination, but never for doing good works.
In this Opie hoped to show that we Jedi live what we teach. Help others help themselves; the Kiva Organization. Protect those that cannot protect themselves; Animal Sanctuaries (such as Wildcat Haven). Honor and defend life; Children's Hospitals. And while it may be semantics Opie did not feel that the name "Jedi Academy Online" was fully appropriate or fully reflected what the Jedi accomplish as a group. And so the Jedi Foundation was born to correct the oversights of the past.
Our Mission: Teach the Jedi Path in the most dedicated and realistic way possible; by passing on Jedi Philosophy which is applicable to everyday life. So people can live as Jedi, to make sure the standards are kept high so when one says they are a Jedi, the world knows that means something positive, not a fanatic that sues over hoodies. And to show not just through words, but through actions that the Jedi Path is as real and useful as any other philosophical path in life.
And this is just the beginning - our history shall grow as we grow into the future. Until it is not only acceptable to call oneself a Jedi, but honorable as well.
