Article I - Organizational Name and Definitions
Section 1 - Association Name
This Association shall be known as the Jedi Academy Online. And may be refered to as JAO for short.
Section 2 - Definition of Name
Main Entry: Jedi
Part of Speech: noun
Definition 1: Any member of the knightly order in Star Wars, which was trained to defend justice and peace in the universe; also called Jedi Knight.
Example: Obi-Wan Kenobi was a Jedi Knight.
Definition 2: Any individual who is actively training in and living the Jedi Path (Jedi Path defined below).
Example: Jasta Gar'su is a Jedi Knight.
The word Jedi has been used since 1977 with the release of Star Wars. The definition is almost always the same and usually seems every circular, a Jedi is one who follows and lives according to the Jedi Path. A Jedi could be defined by the Jedi Circle, which lists practices, traits, and tenets, which more accurately describes who and what a Jedi is.
Second Entry: Academy
Part of Speech: noun
Definition 1: A school or college for special instruction or training in a subject
Example: A military academy.
Definition 2: An association or institution for the advancement of art, literature, or science. Example: the National Academy of Arts and Letters.
Definition 3: A group of authorities and leaders in a field of scholarship, art, etc., who are often permitted to dictate standards, prescribe methods, and criticize new ideas.
Example: Jedi Academy
Section 3 - Definition of Termnology
Definition of Jedi: Any individual who is actively training in and living the Jedi Path.
Definition of the Jedi Path:
Main Entry: Jedi Path
Part of Speech: Noun
Definition 1: The Philosophical ideology presented in Star Wars Entertainment in direct relation to the Jedi Order and its members.
Example: The Jedi Code helps one understand the philosophy of the Jedi Path.
Definition 2: A philosophical way of life inspired by the fictional Jedi in Star Wars and expounded by the Jedi Circle.
Example: Joshua likes the ideals of the Jedi Path, but he is does not consider himself a Jedi. Definition 3: The Jedi Path is the overall Philosophical ideals that we Jedi follow, train, and practice daily.
Example: The Jedi Path is not hard to explain, but it can be hard to find the proper words to define it. Every actual Jedi walks the Jedi Path, thus they are examples of it. But this itself does not explain it to others, hopefully these definitions have helped.
Definition of Jedi Arts:
The Jedi Arts are the physical and mental skills of a Jedi practitioner. The Jedi Arts are based around the ideals and philosophies espoused by the Jedi Circle. The Jedi Arts include martial arts, meditation, contemplation of the Force and it's uses/applications, mediation skills, the history and lore of the Jedi, and continual advancement of the Mind and Body. (As written by Jedi Joshua G.)
Definition of the Jedi Circle:
A full definition and description of the Jedi Circle can be found here: Jedi Circle Page

The Five Tenets; Peace, Knowledge, Serenity, Harmony, the Force.
The Five Traits; Reliability, Objectivity, Humility, Patience, Wisdom.
The Five Truths; Commitment, Self-Honesty, Learning, Sacrifice, and Guidance.

(As written by Opie-Wan Macleod)
Definition of The Force:
The Force is a collective field of energy - both internal and external, created by all living things. It permeates all things, living or not. It contains physical and metaphysical energies, as well as our connection to each other as living beings. The Force is essentially a "by-product" of life - a side effect, if you will, yet symbiotic. All of life's processes (respiration, photosynthesis, etc) produce energy. And energy is what produces these processes. The energy that is both produced by life and produces life is what we call the Force. The Force does not exist where there is no life - however, all life leaves behind energy "fingerprints", which can be sensed on non-life by those who are sensitive to the energy. With deeper understanding, intent, and training the Force can be subtly manipulated to effect change and actions not always readily explainable by science or logic.
Definitions of the Community:
To be crystal clear, the Jedi Academy Online only trains Jedi. What some would call Light Jedi. This is the only valid Jedi Path, all other "aspects" are merely variations of the Jedi Path which.
Jedi: People may refer to them as Light Jedi merely for sake of classification. A Jedi is a Jedi, and they follow the Jedi Circle. Since they are often seen to be selfless, they are considered "Light." (Creator: George Lucas) The Jedi are servants of life. They help others, even if they have to put themselves out. They train diligently and seek self-mastery in order to decrease their weaknesses and limitations and increase their effectiveness in service. They prefer to help others in anyway they can. The Jedi Academy Online is geared towards training Jedi.
Shadow: One in search of balance. Originally formed under Shinobi at the Force Academy in '98. It was a need at the time to create a middle class. That need is no longer evident in today's Community. One who seeks balance with the Force, neither light nor dark. They follow the will of the Force and do what they feel necessary. They have evolved since that time. (Creator: Shinobi)
The Shadow draw from Taoist and Ninpo principles, and believe in following the "Will of the Force", always seeking a balance.
Grey: One who uses both the Light Side and Dark Side techniques and methods. Their methods consist of whatever will get the job done. They do not seek to restrict themselves. Balance is only a factor in personal relations, making sure they do not fall one way or another. They still help others, but have few restrictions in just how to help. (Creator: Koren Jey)
The Grey believe in doing whatever necessary to get the best results. They study both in "Light Side" and "Dark Side" techinques and methods. Using whatever method they feel best fits the situation.
Difference of Grey and Shadow: Grey Jedi believe in Sides. Grey Jedi practice both Light Side and Dark Side techinuqes and use whatever works best for the best outcome within the moment. Grey Jedi seek similar ends as the "Light" Jedi, but feel a Jedi should use whatever means are at thier disposable to accomplish it.
A Shadow Jedi does not believe in Sides. There is no Light Side, there is no Dark Side, there is merely the Force and it's infinite capacity for knowledge. Balance is maintained within the individual (often the source of confusion between the two paths).
The Grey Path was developed with an idea that a Jedi should not be limited in any way, no techinque off limits with the proper training.
The Shadow Path was created at a time when the Jedi(Light) were still working through thier own beliefs and knowledge. The Shadow removed Sides and instead focused on training the individual to be a capable Jedi understanding the Force as a whole, not seperated by any aspects.
Dark: A Dark "Jedi" is not a Sith. Dark Jedi is one who is a Fallen Jedi. They use what they know for personal gain and power. They help others, if they deem it worth their time. They have few restrictions on course, and look to further themselves, only to benefit themselves. (Creator: George Lucas)
The Dark Knights use their power to dominate, control and fulfill their own desires rather than to serve. Some are violent, but most are devious in the pursuit of these goals, at least until they have made enough progress to put down most, if not all opposition.
Sith: Originally the Sith were Magick users, Dark Siders. Some were crude, but there were cunning Sith. Ones who gained power much like we see in the movies. They seek what they hold most dear, and are willing to do anything to make it happen. Even befriend an entire Jedi Community. The Sith of our time do not seek to destroy the Jedi as we see in the Star Wars universe. The Jedi do not pose a threat to warrant such behavior. In fact most Jedi gave/give a place on their websites for them. They seek only what they value and use the Star Wars mythos as their grounds of training. Inspired much as the Jedi were/are. (Creator: George Lucas)
Light Sith: Magick Users who used Sith ideals, mixed with Jedi ideals to live a seperate path. Offering instead of the Force, Magick as its main principle. Light Sith did tend to go to extremes at times, using more agressive behavior. Still they held to helping others with a 'the ends justify the means' philosophy. ( Creator- Ulfric Darkwolf, furthered by Alloran/Malprave)

Traditional:
Padawan/Master - Members who have been recognized as Knights or higher may offer to take on a student within the Jedi Academy Online. The JAO allows Two Padawans per Knight within the Jedi Academy. The dedication needed between both members is such that this is more than enough to keep any teacher busy.
A Student must pass the Jedi Academy Online Class first, before they can begin Formal Training under a single Teacher.
The Teacher is encouraged to discuss the different classifications in-depth with thier Padawan. Informing them of the different choices and understanding their talents. Once a Padawan has chosen their desired Classification, they can begin the Classification Training when their Master allows.
Classification Training:
Each Classification; Guardian, Healer, Sentinal, and Consular, has it's own training style and program. Each Classification has it's own forum where training takes place. Ranks within the JAO are:
Initiate/Youngling - Jedi of the First Level.
Padawan/Apprentice - Jedi of the Second Level
Knight - Jedi of the Third Level
Master - Jedi of the Fourth Level
Levels:
Jedi of the First Level - Jedi Initiate (Youngling or "Jedi Hopeful") - Younglings are new to the Jedi Path, at this level an individual is aware of the Jedi Path and wishes to explore it further. A Jedi Initiate has an interest to become a Jedi, as such they join the Academy to learn how to live, act, and be a Jedi Knight.
Jedi of the Second Level - Jedi Padawan(or Apprentice) - Padawans have completed the Academy Training and are under a direct Apprenticeship with a Jedi Knight or Master. In order to graduate to Padawan status, an Initiate must be chosen by a Knight or Master and taken as thier pupil. A Padawan has commited thier lives fully to becoming a Jedi.
Jedi of the Third Level - Jedi Knight - A disciplined Padawan will become a fully trained Jedi Knight once they complete the Jedi Trials (The JAO RTS). The trials are, but not limited to: Trial of Knowledge, Trial of Courage, Trial of Skill, Trial of Flesh, and the Trial of Spirit (note these are not exactly the same as listed withint he Star Wars Fiction, only similar with the JAO's own system written in). This level is given to one who has passed the trials and completed their initial training. From this point on they are considered able to teach and expected to be living examples of how a Jedi should be. In order to be recoginzed as a Jedi Knight the student must be at least 22 years old. One who has been studying and living the Jedi Path (previous studies in any other philosophy or mysticism do not count) for Five(5) years. Three(3) of those Five years being assoicated with the Jedi Community and/or a reiable member of the Jedi Community.
Jedi of the Fourth Level - Jedi Master - This Level of the Jedi Path has the most requirements placed upon it. Currently in order to become a Jedi Master one must be a Jedi Knight who shows great understanding of the Force, is a living example of the Jedi Path, and has managed to successfully train a Padawan up to the Third Level, Jedi Knight. Other requirements are: One who is at least 32 years of age - One who has been studying and living the Jedi Path (previous studies in any other philosophy or mysticism do not count) for 10 years. - Five of those Ten years being assoicated with the Jedi Community and/or a reiable member of the Jedi Community. - One who has met in-person with the JAO Council and recieves their recommendation.
Section 2 - Classifications
Different Classes of Jedi:
Specializing in different classes of the Jedi requires one to be a Jedi of the Third Level or one who is of the Second Level and has the recommendation of their Master. After a Jedi has reached this level they may than start specializing in a specific classification. The classifications are as follows;
Jedi Healer - A Jedi not only devoted to the Healing Arts, but one who has a talent for it. A Jedi Healer understands that healing must take place on levels, Mind, Body, and Spirit. They study and are certified in various forms of healing, such as; Herbalism, First-Aid, CPR, Energy work, Psychology, and so on. They are closely guarded by Jedi Guardians and Jedi Knights, sometimes to the annoyance of the Jedi Healer. A Jedi Healer can request a specific Jedi Guardian as a protector. As described by the Power of the Jedi sourcebook: 'Jedi Healers are experts in the arts and sciences of medicine. As peaceful scholars, they spend most of their time tending to patients and meditating on how the Force connects all living things.... Apprentices who show a talent for healing arts are carefully tutored toward becoming healers so their rare gifts do not go to waste. Jedi Healers are not always passive. Many are more than willing seek out the cause of the suffering, rather than just treat the symptoms. Jedi Healers often seek out battlefields, travel to plague-ridden places, and place themselves in perilous situations where healing talents can do the most good. Traveling Jedi Healers are accompanied by other Jedi.'
Jedi Guardian - A Jedi devoted to training in the various arts and tactics of combat and defense. They steady themselves as pillars, strong and unyielding. Their purpose is to protect and serve. They train diligently in various martial fields and for long vigils, so that they may watch over other people and Jedi. Often times a Jedi Guardian is given a specific person to protect. They are to be that person's perfect companion, becoming as a shadow. Non-intrusive in their life, but ready to defend whenever necessary. As Describe by the Power of the Jedi sourcebook: 'Jedi Guardians have devoted long years to honing their bodies to a perfect state. They are the warriors of the order, stressing physical training and battle prowess above all. By the time a Jedi Guardian reaches the Fourth Level of a Jedi s/he is already a capable and savvy combatant, well adapted at protecting thier assignment. While a Jedi Guardian is still free to pursue thier own course, all Guardians represent the Jedi Order and its Code with all they encounter.'
Jedi Consular - A Jedi devoted to the ways of diplomacy and culture of the world. They are the scholars of the Jedi Order. Here is where you'll find the Jedi Historians, Librarians, and Diplomats. These Jedi prize greatly knowledge and the proper wisdom to use it and share it accordingly. Though rarely in need of one, Jedi Consulars are at times given, and at any time can request, a Jedi Guardian to protect and serve. As Described by the Power of the Jedi sourcebook: 'While Jedi Guardians concentrate on combining the Force with martial and physical training, Jedi Consulars learn to use the Force in conjunction with diplomacy, philosophy, and reasoning. Diplomatic missions and scholarly pursuits is where you'll find most Jedi Consulars. Their minds and lives are focused toward the discovery, codification, and explanation of knowledge and basic truths. Thier strength is in knowledge, not combat. When a scholar journeys away seeking out lost records or new information, they are usually accompanied by a Jedi Guardian.'
Jedi Sentinal - A Jedi Sentinal is devoted to no specific class, but opens their self to as much as possible. Jedi Sentinals study as much as they can in various fields. Being focused on doing whatever is necessary, rather than any one field of study. As a result Jedi Sentinals often have longer study periods and apprenticeships. And while a Jedi Sentinal may excel in one field or another they do not give themselves solely to that cause. A Jedi Sentinal are the main choice of study for most Jedi, though few realize how in-depth it truly is. They are the wanderers of the Jedi Community and often of the world. They often accompany other Jedi when traveling. They serve best by adapting themselves to the situation. And after a while of living as a Jedi Sentinal, many later dedicate themselves to a certain classification and/or become instructors for the Academy.
Article X - Local/Regional Chapters
There are no Current Chapters to the JAO. Guidelines will be given when a need arises to establish local chapters. Original Chapters established in early 2004, though the lack of actual necessity lead to the removal of chapters until such a time as the JAO Organziation grows large enough to establish them once again.
Article XI - Amendments to the Regulation
Section 1 - Changes

Section 3 - Voting for the Amendments
A voting session to amend the regulations shall be announced no less than 2 weeks before the voting period begins and the membership shall have access to the revisions at that time.
